A wedding trend that we’ve come to love is light up props for the dance floor! Although a wedding is a formal affair, the reception party is where things typically get a little less formal and a little more crazy. Dance floor props give your guests something fun to wear or hold onto and adds to the experience of your dance party. In this blog, we’ll talk about some of our favorite dance floor items, and give you insight from two of our valued preferred DJs, McClains Mobile DJ and JAM Entertainment.
Why Have Dance Floor Props?
Fun props for your dance floor are a way to enhance the dance party experience for you and your guests. Props like glow sticks, hats, glasses, and others let people feel comfortable on the dance floor and allow them to let loose and join in on the fun. If the bride and groom or the bridal party are bringing the party to the dance floor, your other guests will follow! It’s a way to ensure the dance floor is packed and adds an extra experience for your guests. Plus, some items can double for your grand exit or as a wedding favor!
What To Get for Your Dance Floor
We are a barn wedding venue where country chic meets modern romance, so we have to start off with these super fun light-up cowboy hats! If your wedding embraces Western culture, these are a great addition to keep the party going strong.
Foam glow sticks are another popular item! They come relatively cheap and can be found in white or multi-color. These give your guests something to wave around and hold onto while they are dancing, making them feel comfortable without a drink in their hand. These can also double as a lively item for your exit, as guests can wave them around instead of sparklers.
If you really like the sparkler idea for an exit, these light-up battery-powered sparklers give the same effect without the open flame. While these are most commonly used for exits, they’re a great prop to break out for the dance floor as well! Plus, your guests will already have them in hand for when it is time to make your exit.
Another fun item is sunglasses for your guests, that can double as wedding favors. Everyone loves a silly pair of glasses that they wouldn’t wear on a normal basis. Props like these are also great if you have a photo booth!
Advice From Our Vendors
We asked two of our trusted wedding vendors to give their experience on what they’ve seen at weddings when it comes to the dance floor.
McClains Mobile DJ
Tracy from McClains Mobile DJ says they love seeing light up props for the dance floor! They’ve seen colorful foam glowsticks, all white foam glowsticks, LED fiber optic wands, and most recently, light up streamers! They look fantastic in photos and get the party going.
Another thing McClains is seeing on the dancefloor is the Ballroom Blitz, where the couple runs table to table to get photos with all the guests, or the couple sits on the dancefloor and guests come to them. It’s a fun way to take photos with all your guests in a short period of time!
McClains recommends viewing this TikTok to get ideas about props for the dance floor, or checking out Amazon for these LED fiberoptic wands or these foam glow sticks!
JAM Entertainment
JAM Entertainment owner Jerod Arreguini says they have noticed props on the dance floor for the past 10 years but they became increasingly popular after the covid pandemic. Props are a welcome addition for JAM and they even provide foam glowsticks as part of their add-ons for their couples.
They have seen glow lights, fat heads, foam sticks, beads, and tons of other things on the dance floor during their time as wedding DJs. While props are fun, Jerod says the best way to get your guests dancing is for the couple to be on the dance floor. They want to experience your day with you, so wherever the couple is, the guests will be too.
“The more the crowd is engaged the better for the overall experience and memories that are created, Jerod said. “People won't remember the songs played, but they will remember how they felt!”
Dancefloor props are not a must-have, but they are a fun addition for you and your guests! Usually relatively inexpensive, these items will have your guests talking for years to come. They’ll always remember the wedding where they cupid shuffled with a light-up cowboy hat on! Celebrate the way you and your future spouse want to!
